What To Expect With Pain Management

Health & Medical Blog

Pain management is the management of your chronic pain that may have been caused by an injury, accident or pain due to a disorder of some sort such as arthritis. If you have severe pain and you've tried other things, and your pain isn't going away, you should seek help from a pain management physician. A pain management physician is a specialist that specializes in the management of pain and will find the right treatments to get your pain under control so you can live pain-free. Read on for what you can expect with pain management.

Go Over Your Reason For Your Pain

At your first appointment, you will go over with the pain management physician why you are experiencing the pain you are in. Tell the physician exactly what occurred, and be sure that the physician has all of the information about your previous treatments, surgeries, or other types of pain or injury management you have had previously. Your pain physician will need this information in order to help treat you properly.

Discuss Pain Management Treatment Options

Your pain management physician will go over possible treatments that may help treat your pain. These treatments may be over-the-counter medication, or prescribed medications such as muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories or you may also need shots to treat your back pain. A shot in the spine, such as a nerve block can treat your pain as well. Another treatment that may be used is using a nerve-stimulating machine, such as a TENS machine, which sends electrical impulses into your back or neck, or wherever you are experiencing pain.

Gradual Stage Treatments

Your treatments are going to be given gradually. You'll start with one treatment, then the treatments will gradually get more aggressive, depending on how your body is responding to treatments. If pain relievers and shots are not working for you, a different treatment may be necessary, such as a surgical implant to help treat your pain automatically with the touch of a button.

If you have severe pain, whether caused by an injury or due to a disorder of some sort, a pain management specialist may be necessary in order to treat your pain properly. If you have been going through other types of treatments with your family physician, but they simply are not working for you, you should make an appointment with a pain management physician to have your pain treated.

Allergy Relief: You Have More Options Than You Think

As a child, I used to spend my days roaming through the woods. I climbed trees, smelled the flowers, and laid in the grass looking at the clouds. My love for nature continued through my teen years, but when I turned 23, I began to sneeze whenever I left my home. I could no longer enjoy my outdoor hikes and I started taking antihistamines so I could at least open my windows on warm days. My allergies got worse though and I met with an allergist who completed a variety of skin tests. I started receiving allergy shots and my allergist taught me about natural cleaning processes and sinus rinses. The injections and natural treatments improved my quality of life greatly. Even if you do not want to start allergy injections, you have a variety of options that can lessen your symptoms, and you should learn what these options are.
