Post-Surgery Tips: A Guide To A Healthy Facelift Recovery

Blog

Your doctor has prepared you for your face lift procedure and has provided the steps to take. But, there are a few things that you should consider to help you recover after your surgery. The following guide will help you make sure you have a quick and healthy recovery.

Balance Your Bacteria

Your body is full of microorganisms, some of which are good for you and some are not. A face lift requires the use of antibiotics to help keep harmful bacteria from creating an infection. Yet, antibiotics may sometimes attack the microorganisms that your body needs. This could make your body vulnerable to bacterial infections.

What you should consider is adding probiotics, which are microorganisms that your body needs. These little organisms help keep bad bacteria from overpopulating by eating them. Most studies say that probiotics are good for surgeries that deal with the stomach. But, other studies have found that good microorganisms help with the following:

  • Promoting healing
  • Balancing the microorganism population
  • Prevents bacterial infections

You can find probiotics in:

  • Yogurt (it will say it contains probiotics)
  • Raw dairy products
  • Fermented vegetables like kimchi or curtido
  • Fermented drinks

These products can be found in your local health food store or at your local farmer's market. Talk to your doctor before and after taking probiotics to monitor your reaction.

Be Sure To Keep Your Blood Pumping

Your recovery rests upon your blood. Blood contains several enzymes, vitamins and minerals that are essential for healing. Your skin needs the aforementioned to rebuild tissue and finally help you fully recover.

To make sure your blood quickly travels through your veins, you need to introduce anticoagulatory and anti-inflammatory foods to your body, like salicylates. Salicylates help halt vitamin K from forming clogs in your blood stream. These clots are necessary to prevent you from bleeding too much, which is good during surgery. But, you also need your blood to move quickly while you recover.

You will also need foods that contain omega 3s as well. Omega 3 helps keep your blood from clotting. And it also helps lubricate your veins.

Consider adding the following to your diet after your surgery to help you recover:

  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Fish
  • Honey
  • Berries

There are other foods that you should consider. Ask your doctor like the one at Hecht Aesthetic Center about what else you can do to speed up your recovery. This is so you can get back to your life as soon as possible.

Allergy Relief: You Have More Options Than You Think

As a child, I used to spend my days roaming through the woods. I climbed trees, smelled the flowers, and laid in the grass looking at the clouds. My love for nature continued through my teen years, but when I turned 23, I began to sneeze whenever I left my home. I could no longer enjoy my outdoor hikes and I started taking antihistamines so I could at least open my windows on warm days. My allergies got worse though and I met with an allergist who completed a variety of skin tests. I started receiving allergy shots and my allergist taught me about natural cleaning processes and sinus rinses. The injections and natural treatments improved my quality of life greatly. Even if you do not want to start allergy injections, you have a variety of options that can lessen your symptoms, and you should learn what these options are.
