3 Reasons to Visit Your Obstetrician before Trying to Have Another Baby

Health & Medical Blog

When you and your spouse decide that you are ready to have another baby, it is a good idea to set up an appointment with your obstetrician before you actually begin trying. This is done for a variety of reasons, and can help you have a healthy pregnancy. This article will discuss 3 reasons to visit your obstetrician before trying to have another baby.

Discuss Any Healthcare Concerns

If you have any health concerns that may effect your pregnancy, it is important to talk about them with your obstetrician. This is especially important if you are seeing a new doctor this time around, because they may not be aware of your previous health issues. Also, new health issues that have happened since your first pregnancy will also need to be discussed. Talk with your doctor if you suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, reproductive issues, etc. Also, if you had a previous pregnancy that was difficult, a C-section, or other pregnancy related issues, be sure to discuss these with your obstetrician so that you can plan and make arrangements for your future pregnancy.

Remove Your Birth Control

If you had birth control placed in your arm or in your uterus after your first pregnancy, you are going to need to have this birth control removed before you before you can start trying again. You will just want to make sure that you explain that you want your birth control removed when you schedule your appointment. The process of removing the birth control is quite simple, and you are generally free to start trying as soon as the birth control is removed.

Physical Exam

Once you have discussed your health concerns with your obstetrician, they can then perform a physical exam on you. This exam will check to make sure that you are in good health, and that your body is in the proper health to conceive a child. Your obstetrician will examine your pelvic area, your breasts, and any other areas that you may have expressed concerns. Blood work may also be done as part of the exam, to check for any issues that a physical exam cannot properly check. During this exam, your birth control can be removed if needs be. If your doctor, one like Women First OBGYN, clears you during this examination and says that you are in good health, then you and your spouse can begin trying to conceive your second child.

Allergy Relief: You Have More Options Than You Think

As a child, I used to spend my days roaming through the woods. I climbed trees, smelled the flowers, and laid in the grass looking at the clouds. My love for nature continued through my teen years, but when I turned 23, I began to sneeze whenever I left my home. I could no longer enjoy my outdoor hikes and I started taking antihistamines so I could at least open my windows on warm days. My allergies got worse though and I met with an allergist who completed a variety of skin tests. I started receiving allergy shots and my allergist taught me about natural cleaning processes and sinus rinses. The injections and natural treatments improved my quality of life greatly. Even if you do not want to start allergy injections, you have a variety of options that can lessen your symptoms, and you should learn what these options are.
