Having swollen feet is a very uncomfortable feeling. If you suffer from edema or swollen feet, it could be due to several different reasons. For example, during pregnancy, many women have swollen feet. Additionally, if you work in a position where you stand on your feet all day, you could end up with swollen feet at the end of your shift. Here are five natural ways to treat swollen feet at home.
Tonic Water
Did you know that tonic water could help you alleviate the swelling in your feet? Try soaking your feet in tonic water that is cold or at room temperature. The bubbles in the tonic water could help you reduce the inflammation your feet.
Grapefruit Essential Oil
Try soaking your feet in warm water with five drops of grapefruit essential oil. Alternatively, you could add these five drops of essential oil to olive oil and give yourself a foot massage. It will still work this way to alleviate the swelling in feet.
Raise Your Feet
To make sure that you elevate feet a few times through the day. For example, when you come home from work, place your feet on an ottoman or prop them up with pillows. The ideal stance is to raise your feet higher than your heart. This will help reduce the swelling in your feet since gravity will not have as much of an impact on your feet when they are raised. If you work a desk job, give yourself a raise. Try to find ways that you could raise your feet at your desk. Even a little bit could make a world of difference.
Water
The water here does not refer to the water that you will use to soak your feet. Instead, make sure that you're drinking enough water each day to reduce the amount of salt in your body. Too much salt in your system could lead to swollen feet. Additionally, you could try to add some fresh lemon juice to the water. Lemon has anti-inflammatory properties, which could help reduce the swelling in your feet.
Yoga
Since yoga helps with your body's circulation it can help alleviate the swelling in your feet. When you have swollen feet it means that your body is not adequately moving fluids and blood through your legs. Instead, they collect at your feet and ankles. With yoga you will be doing different poses that will assist in circulating this fluid and blood through your legs.
These five natural remedies will help alleviate your swollen feet. Speak to your foot doctor at The Podiatry Center or another practice to find out additional ways that you could use to alleviate edema.

As a child, I used to spend my days roaming through the woods. I climbed trees, smelled the flowers, and laid in the grass looking at the clouds. My love for nature continued through my teen years, but when I turned 23, I began to sneeze whenever I left my home. I could no longer enjoy my outdoor hikes and I started taking antihistamines so I could at least open my windows on warm days. My allergies got worse though and I met with an allergist who completed a variety of skin tests. I started receiving allergy shots and my allergist taught me about natural cleaning processes and sinus rinses. The injections and natural treatments improved my quality of life greatly. Even if you do not want to start allergy injections, you have a variety of options that can lessen your symptoms, and you should learn what these options are.
